But how do you conduct effective temperament testing? Here are some tips and best practices for breeders who want to ensure that when they temperament test their litters, they remain accurate and reliable.

Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all with temperament testing. However, research is showing up the validity and reliability more and more each year. So, mix it up! There are many different types of temperament tests that breeders can use, and it’s important to use a variety of tests to get a comprehensive picture of each puppy’s temperament.

Most of these tests will provide insight on a few similar points – the puppy’s likely: friendliness, workability, sound sensitivity, and confidence.

Each scenario is simply to conduct, but is designed to look for something different. Overall, we believe the two most important for all litters assess how the puppy interacts with new people and how it choose to explore or show interest in new environments.

Using multiple tests can help to identify any potential behavioral issues, some traits that can be worked on early on, and who may be a great pet versus a working dogs.
